Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are a group of organofluorine compounds, aliphatic hydrocarbons, in which all or almost all hydrogen atoms are replaced with fluorine. They consist of a hydrophobic alkyl chain of varying length (typically C4 to C16), and a hydrophilic end group, X. The hydrophobic part may be fully or partially fluorinated.
