Poly(biotinyl-tyramide) films were created by the electrochemical oxidation of biotinyl-tyramide. Electropolymerization in basic solutions such as NaOH/methanol or aqueous NaOH led to adherent poly(biotinyl) films on both glassy-carbon (GC) and indium(tin) oxide (ITO) electrodes. Cyclic voltammetry revealed that the resulting poly(biotinyl-tyramide) films passivated the electrode surface. Studies using an avidin-β′-galactosidase conjugate showed that the films provide biotin sites capable of selectively binding avidin.
