A new handy procedure for calculating the successive ionization potentials of the 4f n electrons based on the 'weakest bound electron potential model' theory is suggested and a set of values of the successive ionization potentials of the 4f n electrons for the lanthanides with relative deviations of less than 0.1% are given. Sinha's two relationships are examined and it is shown that the series correlation is a good approximation but the successive correlation is not valid.
