Earlier work on nylon-cotton blends is extended to cover a wide variety of two-component blends. By analysis of the stress–strain curves it is shown how the two components behave almost independently at all strains. The stressstrain curve for any blend can thus be derived from the properties of the components. Factors controlling the breaking stress and strain are discussed and it is shown how these properties may also be predicted. A comparison is made between this prediction scheme and that proposed by Coplan.
