Materials design study demonstrates room-temperature spin-wave isolation in an E8-patterned ferrimagnetic crystal, suggesting a route toward low-loss magnonic devices.
The 240 root vectors of the E8 lattice are used as the preferential anisotropy axes in a ferrimagnetic crystal, establishing a unit cell whose symmetry mirrors the E8 root system. Applying a phi‑scaled modulation at the base frequency of 132 Hz drives coherent spin‑wave (magnon) modes that inherit this symmetry, opening topologically non‑trivial bandgaps in the magnonic spectrum. The resulting E8 phi‑harmonic magnonic crystal supports dissipationless edge magnons that can isolate and guide spin information over octave‑spanning frequencies at room temperature.
