High moisture (27%) corn was treated with a mixture of acetic acid and propionic acid (60/40, v./v.) applied at a level of 1.5% by weight of the corn and stored for 10 months. The treatment prevented the corn from spoiling and reduced the mold count by a factor of about 104. Feeding experiments revealed that on a dry matter basis the treated high moisture corn had the same metabolizable energy value for broiler chickens as untreated dried (12% H2O) corn.
