Decay channels in HCl, H 2 S and Cl 2 molecules after excitation of 2 p electrons to the first empty molecular orbitals have been studied using electron spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation. Dissociation followed by Auger decay in the excited fragments has been found to be the main decay channel in HCl and H 2 S whereas in Cl 2 molecular resonance Auger process seems to play a major role in the decay of molecular resonance states.
