By considering both the longitudinal and transverse components of the surface current on the microstrip line, the effective relative permittivity and the characteristic impedance of a wide cylindrical microstrip line are analyzed. Theoretical results are calculated with the use of a full-wave formulation and a moment-method computation. Experiments are also conducted to verify the calculated results, and the contribution of the transverse current component to the characteristics of a wide cylindrical microstrip line is discussed.
