The microstructural aspects of three different thin film coatings of NiCu at the equiatomic concentration are studied by TEM investigations. Those coatings are: multilayered samples, coevaporated samples, and ion beam assisted codeposited samples. In all cases, under certain experimental conditions of irradiation and annealing, an unexpected L10 ordered phase precipitates in the solid solution matrix of NiCu.
