The time dependence of the recombination of donor-acceptor pairs in an exactly compensated crystal at low temperature is calculated with the use of a Monte Carlo technique. The spatial distribution of the trapped carriers is assumed to be random, and the recombination rate is taken to be exponentially dependent on the separation. The results in one dimension are compared with two previous analytic calculations, and are found to be significantly different from both. We show the recombination to be much slower at long times than previously assumed.
