New Measurements in the Spectrum of the Neutral Nitrogen Atom

The wavelengths have been measured for 200 lines of N I in the long-wave region and 71 lines in the vacuum-ultraviolet region. The latter have also been calculated from the recalculated system of energy levels. The designations 6 s 2 P 3/2 , 4 d 4 D 5/2 , 4 P 5/2, 3/2, 1/2 , 2 F 5/2 , and 5 d 4 D 5/2 , 4 P 5/2, 1/2 have replaced the previous designations 6 s 2 P 1/2 , 4 d 4 P 5/2 , 2 F 5/2 , 4 P 1/2, 3/2 , 4 D 5/2 , and 5 d 4 P 5/2 , 4 D 5/2 , 4 P 3/2 , respectively. The new levels 6 s 2 P 1/2 , 4 p 2 D 5/2, 3/2 , 2 P 3/2, 1/2 , 5 p 4 D 7/2, 5/2, 3/2, 1/2 , 4 P 5/2, 3/2, 1/2 , 4 S 3/2 , 2 P 3/2, 1/2 , 2 S 1/2 , 4 d 4 D 7/2, 3/2, 1/2 , 5 d 4 F 3/2 , 4 D 7/2, 3/2, 1/2 , 4 P 3/2 , and 6 d 4 F 9/2, 7/2 have been established. The limit 2 s 2 2 p 23 P 2 has been determined to 117 356.46±0.12 cm -1 .
