We study the statistical mechanics of a one-dimensional classical system with the purely repulsive interaction v(x)=Cexp(-γ|x|). Emphasis is laid upon an exact treatment of the long-range character of the interaction. We give explicit analytical expressions for the equation of state as well as for the correlation function. The almost crystalline nature of the system shows up in the low-temperature region.
