The homogeneous isomerization of toluene‐1‐14C under the influence of aluminium bromide and hydrogen bromide (mole ratio C6H5‐CH3: Al2Br6·HBr = 6:1) proceeds via a series of consecutive 1,2‐shifts of the methyl group. The energy of activation amounts to 21.9 kcal/mole (± 4%).
