The authors discuss the influence of the two-step excitation mechanism on the shape of autoionization resonances in electron emission spectra of helium. The parameters of the (2s 2 ) 1 S resonance, allowing for correlation and the two-step excitation mechanism, with the inclusion of the Coulomb interaction in the final state in the direct and resonance ionization amplitudes, have been calculated for ionization of helium by intermediate-energy protons.
