Certain metal acetylacetonates undergo reactions characteristic of aromatic systems. Outstanding among these are electrophilic substitutions and the formation of a stable diazonium fluoroborate. Unsymmetrically substituted chelates have been prepared by stepwise substitution of trifunctional complexes. Chemical and physical properties of such mixed‐ring complexes provide evidence for intramolecular interannular electronic effects transmitted through the metal ion.
