Storage of preclimacteric bananas in sealed polyethylene showed promise. After a reasonable period of storage the bags must be opened to allow normal ripening. Endogenous ethylene was a source of potential ripening in these sealed poly bags. Hence, an ethylene absorbent was usually essential. A commercial product, ‘Purafil’ was capable of absorbing this ethylene and extending the storage life of preclimacteric fruits.
