J. J. Thomson and G. P. Thomson's theory of waves in a positive-ion/negative-ion plasma is extended to include collisional and Landau damping, and the effect of recombination is considered briefly. Some possible effects of drift instabilities in striated positive columns in electronegative gases are also discussed, together with the use of the Debye length and plasma oscillation frequency for scaling purposes.
