The first edition of this textbook, highly recommended by reviewers, has been found useful both by cardiologists and by other physicians and students. This new revision has essentially the same organization. There are chapters on pertinent anatomy and physiology, the hemodynamic effects of arrhythmias, and etiology, pathogenesis, and therapy. The major part of the book deals with individual arrhythmias in great detail. After a brief section on diagnostic procedures, the arrhythmias observed in a long list of clinical and physiological states are described. Some chapters (exercise, hypothermia) have been added here. The section on drug therapy, previously limited to digitalis, quinidine and procainamide, now includes chapters on sympathetic and parasympathetic mimetics and inhibitors, and on other agents affecting the cardiac mechanism.
