An adequate mathematical model is required if induction machine drive behaviour is to be predicted accurately. The main flux saturation effect 1s of primary importance in a number of applications and therefore it cannot be ignored in the modelling procedure. Two nonlinear functions are present in the modified saturated induction machine model, namely, magnetizing flux and dynamic inductance, which have to be represented in a suitable manner. Different interpolation and approximation methods for these functions are considered in this article. The methods are compared with regard to the accuracy of digital simulation results and computer CPU time requirements. Comparison is done by simulat ing the induct Ion motor start ing process and the induction generator capacitive self-excitation. A method based on regression analysis is shown to be preferable.
