The subjects which I desire to offer relate to the thyroid gland. There are many problems connected with goiter which are not yet settled, and if I can add anything to our existing knowledge I shall feel greatly repaid. FURTHER REPORT ON THE USE OF RADIUM EMANATIONS IN EXOPHTHALMIC GOITER InThe Journal, a year ago,1I made a brief report on the use of radium emanations in the treatment of exophthalmic goiter, based on eleven cases. Since then twenty-two additional cases have been treated by my associates and myself at the University of California Hospital, making a total of thirty-three. Only patients suffering from an extreme degree of hyperthyroidism, due to hyperplasia of the thyroid—the true exophthalmic goiters—have been subjected to this form of treatment, and only with the idea of converting them into better risks for major surgical procedures.
