In the bifunctional coordinated complex cis-[Ru(bpy)2(MeBim)2](PF6)2 (MeBim is 1-methylbenzimidazole), the two MeBim ligands can both orient in two ways, resulting in three different atropisomers. Using 2D NMR techniques the complete structural characterization of the three atropisomers was done and their interconversion as a function of temperature was studied from fast (50 °C) to slow exchange (−95 °C).
