Stability and convergence analysis of the fractional step Θ-scheme for the Navier–Stokes equations coupled with the finite element approximations is presented. The solutions of the underlying Stokes and Burgers problems are described in detail. The asymptotic solution obtained by the numerical stabilization is compared with the analytical solution of the Lid-driven cavity problem.
