Leaf age had a profound effect on the survival of the cabbage whitefly, Aleyrodes brassicae Walk. Young leaves were more favourable for both total and maximum fecundities than were mature leaves. The variety Earliest elicited the highest number of eggs per female and the variety Golden Acre the least. Temperature and longevity were inversely related. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was generally higher at higher temperatures than at lower ones because of shorter development times and earlier attainment of maximum fecundity.
