Two new sodium cytosine compounds, showing an unprecedented coordination of the nucleobase, have been synthesized from aqueous solutions containing perchlorate ions; whereas attempts to obtain similar complexes with Cl−, Br−, NO3−, SO42−, PF6−, CF3SO3− as counterions failed, using sodium tetrafluoroborate a hemiprotonated species, without Na+ cations, was obtained.
