The paper describes a theoretical analysis of the effects of surface roughness on squeeze film characteristics between two circular plates. The analysis is based upon a stochastic theory of hydrodynamic lubrication developed by Christensen and Tonder. The important squeeze film parameters are obtained as simple closed form expressions for various roughness types and a comparative study is made.
