Syntheses of palmitic acid‐d2 and stearic acid‐d6 are described, the latter route also having the capability of producing methyl oleate and elaidate‐13,13,14,14‐d4 from the same synthetic sequence. Overall yields are in the range of 40 to 60%. These syntheses use tris (triphenylphosphine) ‐ chlororhodium(I) for the incorporation of deuterium. Atomic absorption spectroscopy is used to confirm that less than 70 ppb rhodium catalyst remained in the final products.
