Male albino mice were irradiated with single and fractionated doses of 8- Mev x rays or fast neutrons, and the radiation damage to the testes was assessed from the weight loss of the organs. An RBE of neutrons against x rays of 4.85 plus or minus 0.31 ( sigma ) was found at 28 days aft er singledose irradiations. Splitting of the doses into two equal fractions given 4 or 7 days apart did not result in any significant change of the RBE value.
