By counting the number of options available during physical building of random network models for amorphous Ge, the upper limit of the configurational entropy was found to be 0·2 k per atom, independent of the ring statistics. The configurational entropy from the pair correlations was estimated to be 1·8 k per atom, which illustrates the importance of higher-order correlations.
