Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic health condition that generates needs in adolescents and their parents. So, it is necessary to analyze the concept and thus generate strategies for the care of the dyad. Objective: To conduct a concept analysis of the needs of the parent–adolescent dyad with Type 1 diabetes mellitus, in addition to identifying its attributes, antecedents, and consequences. Methodology: The concept analysis methodology proposed by Walker and Avant was used. The data sources were Sage, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Science Direct, Lilacs/BIREME, Scielo, CINAHL, and Scopus databases, which were reviewed to obtain articles related to the subject. An additional search was conducted in the Royal Academy of Language dictionary, the Oxford Dictionary, and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Thesaurus. Results: The concept we analyzed is composed of terms widely used in the social and health sciences. The review of 23 articles selected from 942 identified articles indicated that this concept is related to education, support, and health maintenance requirements. Conclusions: The concept “Needs of the parent–adolescent dyad with type 1 Diabetes Mellitus” reflects their requirements of education to understand their condition; emotional and social support to face it; and the access to health services in order for them to meet their needs, prevent complications, and promote their well‐being. Clarifying this concept will help health professionals to better care for these dyads.
