A new method for the determination of the interstellar reddening of late-type stars is developed and applied in the direction of the high4atitude globular clusters M3 and M13, and of the two spiral galaxies M31 and M33. The color excess for both globular clusters was found to be zero: E (B - V) = - 0.01+0.02 for M3, and E(B- V) = 0.00+0.02 for M13; further, we found E (B - V) =0.11+0.02 for M31, and E (B - V) =0.03+0.02 for M33. In the direction of M31, the absorbing material appears to extend to a distance of 200+50 pc below the Galactic plane.
