A gas-chromatographic method for the detection and estimation of small amounts of mesityl oxide and diacetone alcohol in acetone was developed. By the simultaneous analysis of acetone samples on the two packed columns of differing polarities, it was possible to detect and estimate trace quantities of mesityl oxide and diacetone alcohol at the mg/l level.
