Summary. In order to study the rôle of the liver and the kidneys for the detoxication of some N‐substituted barbiturates, the influence of hepatectomy and bilateral nephrectomy on the induction time and duration of action is investigated. The following conclusions are drawn: For 5,5‐diallyl‐barbituric acid and its 1–(N,N‐diethylcarbamyl‐methyl) derivative the kidneys participate as much as the liver in the detoxication. 1‐benzyl‐5,5 diallyl‐barbituric acid isdestroyed mainlyin the liver. 1‐carbethoxymethyl‐5,5‐dialkyl‐barbiturates are probably hydrolyzed to the corresponding carbonic acid, 1‐carboxymethyl‐5,5‐dialkyl‐barbituric acid.
