A model is developed to describe the magnetization behavior of randomly oriented uniaxial particles, in which it is assumed that the individual Nd2Fe14B crystallites do not interact. The model agrees qualitatively with the observed magnetization behavior of melt-spun Nd-Fe-B ribbons, but significant quantitative violations of the model provide evidence for substantial particle interaction effects in the ribbons. This corroborates earlier transmission electron microscope and magnetization studies in which indications of such effects were reported. A qualitative discussion of the role of particle interactions in the magnetization behavior is presented.
