This paper presents a versatile finite‐difference‐based method, formulated in terms of the simultaneous over‐relaxation (SOR) technique, for the modeling of photonic crystal fibers. The dispersion characteristics of such fibers are obtained and the results are compared with previously published data with excellent agreement.
