The possibility of substituting molybdenum with vanadium in cast austenitic stainless alloys has been investigated with respect to general corrosion resistance in inorganic acids and resistance to pitting attack in chloride media. The cast alloys investigated included ACl Types CF-8M and CG-8M and alloys similar in composition to the proprietary grade alloys Durimet 20 and Worthite. It has been found that vanadium is not suitable when used as a complete substitute but may find application as a partial replacement.
