A temperature variable high-pressure optical cell and the assembly for pressure generation and measurement are described. The water corrosion problem of the steel cell at high pressure is eliminated by using a quartz sample holder to isolate the water from the inner bore of the steel cell. The cell and the assembly have been tested by measuring the pressure dependence of the endothermic phase-transition temperature between the liquid crystalline and the gel phase of aqueous DPPC.
