Using the wide angle X‐ray scattering technique the swelling process of polyacrylonitrile and the structural changes of the polymer during swelling were investigated. As swelling media were used aqueous solutions of dimethylformamide. From the influence of temperature and concentration of the swelling medium an attempt was made to draw conclusions to the effect of low molecular weight substances on the swelling process.
