The article discusses some of the insights we have gained while looking at ways in which computer‐mediated communication can help bridge different and often separate fields of practice, school, and university, and offer learning experiences for pre‐service and in‐service teachers alike. By referring to our experiences with various strategies for re‐designing foreign‐language‐teacher education through seminars that we are offering in a joint research project at the University of Giessen and the University of Education in Freiburg, we explore ways in which co‐operative contexts of participation can be created and sustained.
