The pressure dependence of some near infrared emissions, mostly due to the production of the 6p[1/2]0 and 6p[3/2]2 Xe levels by processes related to vacuum-ultraviolet irradiation, has been investigated. Xe gas has been irradiated at twelve selected wavelengths in the range from 127.0±0.2 to 112.0±0.2 nm and the pressure effect on the absorption and the near infrared emissions compared. The results are discussed in terms of molecular dissociation and predissociation of excited Xe2 Rydberg states and of radiative coupling between atomic excited levels.
