A gas-solid preparative scale chromatograph has been constructed that has sufficient efficiency to partially resolve CH3D and CH4. The Chromatograph has been used to prepare 99.8% pure CH3D (1.5 cm3 per run) from chemically prepared CH3D containing ∼ 3% CH4 and 1% CH2D2. The method is applicable to any mixture of the methane isotopes.
