This article proposes an analytical study of the link budget in UHF RFID which takes into account the effects of materials where the tags are adhered, and which permits to analyze the impact of detuning and gain penalty on the read range. The analysis is performed for two typical tag antenna topologies: a dipole antenna and a slot antenna.
