The polymer electrolyte, [(CH2O)(CH2CH2O)8.7]nLiCF3SO3 ((a-PEO)nLiOTf), and V2O5 were combined by sol−gel chemistry to form layered xerogel nanocomposites. These materials exhibit electronic conductivity via the V2O5 component and ionic conductivity through the (a-PEO)nLiOTf. The total conductivity is highly anisotropic with a perpendicular conductivity 6 orders of magnitude less than the parallel component.
