The unique C−C bond formation reaction between diisopropylamine and CH 2 Cl 2 proceeding on a bis(oxazolinyl)phenyl rhodium complex ( t Bu-Phebox-dm)RhCl 2 (H 2 O) ( 1 ) was discovered. The intermediary chloromethyl complex, ( t Bu-Phebox- dm )Rh(CH 2 Cl)Cl(NEt 3 ), which was obtained by reaction of 1 with CH 2 Cl 2 in the presence of amine, underwent C−C bond formation with imine to give an azarhodacyclopentene complex, 2 .
