The grafting of 1,2-phenylenediamine (PDA) onto natural rubber (NR) was done by using two roll-mill machine. NR was masticated to lower molecular weight than the original NR. The masticated natural rubber was treated with PDA. The NR-g-PDA was characterized by Infrared (IR) technique. In this article, we study the effect of the aging and compression on the mechanical and the recovery properties for natural rubber to evaluate the effect of the commercial antioxidant, N-isopropyl-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine, IPPD, and the prepared NR-g-PDA on the oxidation resistance for the natural rubber vulcanizates. It has been found that, the two-roll mill machine is essential tool to execute the grafting of PDA onto NR in polymer processing laboratories, and the prepared antioxidant enhance the mechanical properties, the recovery properties, and the oxidation resistance for the NR vulcanizates.
