The properties of polyvinylamine chelates were studied in aqueous solution by spectrophotometric, viscometric, and conductometric measurements. The results obtained by potentiometric measurements in a previous investigation were confirmed and extended. Polyvinylamine was shown to yield, with copper ion, stable chelates (mainly of the 1/4 type) which are water‐soluble over a wide range of pH values for sufficiently low ionic strength and polychelate concentration. The chelation is accompanied by a very important modification of the shape of the macromolecule, shape which also depends, but to a much less extent, upon the degree of charge of the macromolecule.
