A precision laboratory measurement of the principal wave velocities in a homogeneous material is presented as evidence that a closer agreement may be obtained between laboratory and field results than heretofore thought possible. The laboratory results differ from field quantities in a predictable direction. The method is an application of laboratory techniques in an imitation of field procedures to a scale model of field structures.
