It has been qualitatively demonstrated the vinyltriethoxysilane is polymerized by a free radical process to clear, colorless, viscous liquid polymer of low molecular weight. The low molecular weight is the result of chain transfer with polymer and monomer. This chain transfer involves the abstraction of the alpha‐hydrogen of an ethoxysilyl group (CH3CH2OSi) of either the polymer or the monomer. The ratio of chain transfer with polymer to that with monomer for high conversions is at least 4.5.
