With the expansion of the power grid, the operation of power system becomes more and more complicated. Key transmission sections play an important role in the power grid, which can be considered as crucial monitoring subjects to improve the efficiency of security analysis and stability control. This paper proposes an identification method for transmission sections based on the results of the power grid partitioning, which lays the foundation for real-time monitoring and analysis of the power grid. First, key-line indicators are used to obtain important transmission lines in the power grid, which are further used to partition the power grid. The transmission lines between the subareas are obtained as tie lines. Second, the Karger method is applied to find the cut sets of the power grid, representing initial transmission sections. Finally, transmission sections are identified through screening and modification of active power flow direction. Numerical results of the 39-bus New England system and the IEEE 118-bus system show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
