A description is given of a nuclear resonance apparatus suitable for carrying out measurements in the rotating frame. A new method of aligning the nuclear magnetization along the rf field H1, which employs a field pulse, is discussed together with an easily constructed transistor field pulse amplifier. The apparatus is suitable for use with solids, being capable of generating an H1 field of 4 G. The over-all recovery time has been kept to about 5 μsec using a thyratron damping circuit. The probe described can be used for measurements in the temperature range −195°C to +150°C. A brief description of alignment procedure together with some illustrative results for camphor are given.
