An apparently healthy 64-year-old man developed severe septicemia due to a phage group 2 Staphylococcus that was followed by a widespread, bullous eruption characterized by intraepidermal cleavage. To our knowledge, this is the first well-documented report of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome occurring in a normal adult.
